Steamer service resumes in Kali Gandaki river

Parbat - The steamer service on the Kali Gandaki river that was halted during the monsoon has been brought back into operation from Monday.

The service was halted during the monsoon due to strong water current in the lake formed in the river after Kali Gandaki 'A' hydro power project built a dam.

According to Sun Kumari Bhattarai, Secretary at the Shaligram at Bihadi rural municipality-6 in Parbat district, the steamer service was halted to prevent accidents and now it has been resumed as the water current has subdued in the lake as well as in the river.

With the resumption of the service, locals and people from rural areas in Syangja and Gulmi as well as tourists have been elated to avail easier and cost-effective mode of transportation.

The service has been run by local entrepreneurs. A single streamer could accommodate up to 150 passengers.

There are altogether 11 streamers operative on the seven kilometres distance from Shaligram in Parbat to Mirmi in Syangja, benefitting the people from Gulmi, Syangja and southern part of Baglung.
