Sri Lanka launches National Industry Information System

Sri Lanka's Ministry of Industry and Entrepreneurship Development has launched the National Industry Information System (NIIS), a new digital platform designed to consolidate and manage all information related to the country's industrial and economic activities.

The NIIS, launched on Wednesday here, serves as a centralized database encompassing industry details, business classifications, legal status, registration data, UN classification, scale of operations, production statistics, raw material use, market coverage, employment, energy and fuel consumption, as well as waste management and disposal methods.

Under this initiative, industrialists can register by creating individual accounts or by submitting details through authorized government officers. Applications will be reviewed and verified by officials, who may also carry out site inspections where necessary.

Each verified entity will receive an official certificate recognizing it as a registered industry within the National Industry Database. Registered industries are required to update their data annually to maintain the accuracy and reliability of the system.

Minister of Industry and Entrepreneurship Development Sunil Handunnetti said the launch marks an important step in the digitalization of Sri Lanka's industrial sector, as there has been no comprehensive database of local industries until now.
