Century-old Brahma temple restored on its ruins

Kathmandu, Nov 7: The Brahma temple located at Jayabageshwori of Kathmandu metropolitan city-8 has been inaugurated today after it was rebuilt on its ruins.

KMC Mayor Balendra Shah (Balen) inaugurated the temple. On the occasion, Deputy-Mayor Sunita Dangol said figures, statues and artwork, which are life of ancient monuments, would contribute to restoring the identity of Kathmandu as a cultural city.

The temple was left in ruins for almost 100 years.

According to Chairperson of KMC-8 and Coordinator of Tourism Committee, Asha Man Sangat, the temple turned into ruin before 1990 BS. The antiquity of the temple was studied by excavating it with the help of Department of Archeology.

He mentioned, "It is estimated from the study that the temple was built in between the sixth and seventh century. The temple was reconstructed after archeologists designed the structure of the temple based on construction materials used in the temple after no documents were found regarding the structure and nature of the temple."
