SC refuses to issue interim order against IGP appointment

KATHMANDU, May 5: The Supreme Court (SC) refused to issue an interim order against the appointment of Dhiraj Prakash Singh as the new Inspector General of Police (IGP).

Earlier, Additional Inspector General (AIG) Bishwaraj Pokharel had filed  a writ petition against the government’s move to appoint to the post of  IGP and demanded the government to scrap the appointment, appoint him to the post as per his seniority, performance and achievements.

The hearing of the case was initiated on Wednesday by a single bench of Justice Sushmalata Mathema.

Denying an order to issue an order, the apex court has maintained that the further proceedings of the case will be conducted in full court as the newly appointed IGP Singh has already assumed his office.

With this, IGP Singh is now free to conduct his daily administrative activities.

The next hearing of the case is scheduled for May 31.
