Intensive Efforts Underway to Restore Power Grids Following Russian Strikes; Ukraine
“ Ukrainian authorities are continuing their intensive efforts to repair the damage caused by some of the most intense Russian attacks on Ukraine's energy infrastructure.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that repair teams are working almost continuously in most areas.
Restoration efforts are continuing, and despite the difficult situation, thousands of people are involved in the repair efforts, he added, noting that the situation is particularly challenging in the Kharkiv and Sumy regions in the northeast, as well as in the Poltava region in the center of the country.
Ukrainian Minister for Communities and Territories Development Oleksii Kuleba stated that approximately 100,000 subscribers were without electricity, water, and heating in the Kharkiv region.
In Poltava, one of the mostly affected areas, most electricity services were restored yesterday, Sunday, except in parts of the main city due to equipment malfunctions, according to local authorities.
For her part, Ukrainian Energy Minister Svitlanaآ Hrynchuk confirmed that the wave of attacks that killed four people was among the most difficult nights since the start of the Russian military operation in Ukraine in February 2022.
Russia had previously announced that Ukrainian strikes targeted energy facilities, causing power outages for more than 20,000 people in several border regions.
Governor of the Belgorod Oblast Vyacheslav Gladkov said in a statement that electricity and heating networks have suffered significant damage in the city of Belgorod, adding that several roads are experiencing power outages, and more than 20,000 residents are without electricity.
