Three Karnali ministers being relieved of their positions effective from tomorrow
KATHMANDU: The tenure of three Cabinet members of Karnali Province is due to expire effective from Monday.
Ministers trio Ammar Bahadur Thapa (Physical Infrastructures and Urban Development), Kurma Raj Shahi (Land Management, Agriculture and Cooperatives) and Nanda Singh Budha (Industry, Tourism, Forest and Environment) are being relieved automatically on Monday.
Their tenure is expiring as per the constitutional provision that a non-parliamentarian can remain as the minister for up to six months only.
They were sacked as the members of the Karnali Province Assembly for defying party whip and voted in favor of Chief Minister Mahendra Bahadur Shahi’s trust motion on April 16. Along with them, then UML lawmaker Prakash Jwala was also relieved as a member of the provincial assembly. They later joined the CPN (Unified Socialist), a new party formed by a splinter faction of the UML.
The Supreme Court (SC), on August 2, validated their expulsion.
It has been learned that the CPN (US) is holding a meeting to decide who to send to join the CM Shahi-led government.
