42 psychiatric patients in Morang jail

Pathari -As many as 42 inmates among those serving jail term at Morang prison in different cases are found living with mental illness at varying levels. 

According to Prison In-charge Prem Prasad Sapkota, the number of mentally retarded jailbirds has increased to 42 during the period of past five years. Three among them are women. 

The prison administration has arranged frequent medical examination and follow-up of mentally weak inmates at Koshi Zonal Hospital from. 

Psychiatric Specialist at Koshi Zonal Hospital Dr Roshan Pokharel said, "The psychiatric patients of the prison frequently visit the hospital but the exact number of patients cannot be ascertained now". 

He said that many of them have problems of anxiety, fear psychology and irritation. 

The prison now has accommodated 755 inmates while its full-fledged capacity is to manage 400.
